Railway Maintenance Machines

Railway Maintenance System Features
Railway maintenance works are extremely important for securing the safety of railway transportation - an artery of society. Replacement of ballast in particular should be made for as long a distance as possible within the limited time-frame available between the last train of the day and the first train of the following morning. This ballast replacement work involves various problems including reduction of number of workers, limitations in workload, difficulty in achieving planned work volume and increase of unit cost for work execution. The Komatsu Super Liner series was developed with priority given to safety of railway operation, and effectively meets these problems. Its features include the following.
• Manual traversing (exit to outside of rail) can be made if any failure occurs.
• Has no influence on the current signal system.
• No danger of contacting overhead wires.
• No derailment while traveling
• No damage caused to equipment such as rails, sleepers and points.
Furthermore, since it can be transported to the work site by truck, the length of time required for arrival on-site can be greatly reduced.

FEATURES
Easy exit from the main line.
• Should a failure occur in the engine or hydraulic system to disable traveling, it is possible to manually raise the machine with jacks and move it to a nearby emergency station. In addition, an auxiliary engine for emergency exit is optionally provided.
Height automatic stop system
• If maximum working height is set to a safe level, when the boom rises to this level during work, it will stop automatically. Therefore, there is no risk of contacting overhead wires.
Insulation measures to prevent short-circuit faults.
• Insulating measures adopted at the points-of-contact of machine with rails ensure that shorting between right and left rails and interference with signals, etc., will not occur.
Works and deadheading performed entirely on-rail.
• All works are performed on the rails, thus ensuring that no damage will occur to ballast, signal boxes, cables, etc.
Quick traveling speed (on rails)
• Large-diameter [380mm (15")] insulated traveling wheels are provided, allowing safe traveling over junction points and substantially reducing travel time between sites.
Easy rail access and exit
• With rubber crawlers, access and exit to/from the rail line is easy, and causes no damage to rails.
Two gauge types are available;
A machine dedicated to narrow gauge and one dedicated to both narrow and broad gauges.
